Join us in "making room" for newly arrived refugee families! We have a goal of raising $120,000 before our first guests arrive. Will you help us raise $20,000 of that here?
Kataluma is a Boston area refugee hospitality project; we're working to provide newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers with safe, temporary, transitional housing. Watch the video above to learn more about our vision!
This year, newly arrived refugee families will find themselves in a variety of initial and transitional housing across Boston. Having endured hardship and trauma, these guests must learn to navigate a new city, a new culture, and a complex resettlement process. This process can bring new trauma and disorientation. Kataluma is a fellowship that aims to show hospitality in three key ways:
1. Welcome refugee guests in a safe, gracious home with hosts and a supportive community
2. Mobilize and equip local residents to practice hospitality and embrace new arrivals
3. Reflect and learn together from the resettlement and welcoming experience
What does this look like on a practical level? We're currently preparing a house in Newton that will provide safe, temporary, transitional lodging for newly arrived refugees and asylum-seekers. This means that we need to raise the funds to equip our new house with the staffing and supplies that will allow us to begin properly hosting families.
With your help, we will welcome our first refugee family by Christmas Eve.
