In this time of uncertainty, there's a fundamental truth that gives us hope: that together we can do extraordinary things. This year, as we launch Katahdin’s Third Annual $18 Fundraiser, we are also raising awareness for Giving Tuesday, a day of global generosity and giving on December 1.
With your support, Katahdin Productions has produced award-winning films that open minds, provoke dialogue and encourage positive social change, such as Who Will Write Our History, Above and Beyond, Dorothea Lange: Grab A Hunk of Lightning, Hava Nagila (The Movie) and Blessed Is the Match. Katahdin has also mentored filmmakers and supported and sponsored films that connect us across borders, generations and diverse communities, like Shalom Bollywood, Mimi and Dona, Petit Rat, The Garden and many more.
In 2020, Birddog Nation, about the current wave of activism sweeping the country, began screening at festivals online. Who Will Write Our History, about a resistance group in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi occupation, had its broadcast premiere on Discovery. We are in post-production with Vishniac, about the renowned photographer who stamped our memories with his iconic images of pre-war Jewish life. The film recently received a coveted major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. We are also developing a film called Heschel, about the famed theologian and social justice activist who marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. at Selma and was a leader in the Vietnam Anti-War Movement.
We are now asking for your help so that we can continue to develop and produce these new documentaries and ensure that meaningful content reaches as wide an audience as possible. Now more than ever, the world needs the inspiration that filmmakers and artists can provide to make sense of our past and present and create opportunities for reflection and offer hope for the future.
Please consider giving $18 to Katahdin’s Annual Fund this year, and asking eighteen of your friends and family to give $18 as well. Any amount that you are able to donate goes toward ensuring that Katahdin continues to make beautiful, meaningful films that have an enduring impact on our world. We thank you in advance for your kind and generous support.
