For most of my life, I had always believed fitness/athletics to be a world I didn't belong in. Strength For All NYC, created by the Women's Strength Coalition, has taught me that it's only a matter of walking into that world and making the space for yourself.
Since starting powerlifting, I have not only grown physically stronger, I have also grown in every sense of the word - learning to respect the process, to open myself up to failure in order to progress, to step out of my comfort zone, and to love my body for the things it can do. I don't know that this would have been possible for me outside of the community which I found at Strength For All NYC and the work done by the Women's Strength Coalition to create spaces and opportunities such as this in which people from all sorts of backgrounds have the means to explore what it means to be strong and empowered.
And now I'll be participating in my first ever meet! As a newbie, I am both nervous and incredibly excited! :)
The Uplifted! meet will be benefitting the work of the Women's Strength Coalition, which increases access to fitness and movement through advocacy, education, and scholarships. Please help me help them in continuing to provide access to fitness and strength training for all those who want it, who like me never thought it was something they could ever do, and who like me can only benefit from it.
Any contribution goes a long way! Thank you all!
