Help support Northern Voices, a non-profit education center for young children with hearing loss!
They teach deaf children how to speak and listen using their cochlear implants and hearing aids. Children start at the school as early as 9 months old. The goal of this school is to prepare these children to start kindergarten with their hearing peers at their neighborhood school. Since deaf children can't hear themselves speak, their speech development is severely delayed or non-existent. After a child undergoes a cochlear implantation (or is fitted with hearing aids), they can begin their journey at Northern Voices. The school uses no sign language, as it can be a crutch for children to communicate without their voices. These kids work so hard to interpret the sounds coming from their devices. Its truly amazing to hear their speech develop.
Northern Voices (Roseville, MN) is a private school that receives zero funding from the state. They rely on grants, tuition, and donations to operate. The school had been running in the red (at a loss) for years. Thanks to all of you, we helped them finish the fiscal year on a happy note, allowing them to purchase some much needed supplies and resources to help the program grow!
