Kaitlin was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot in utero at 25 weeks. She had a normal, healthy birth and a timeline of 6 – 8 months was given for her first surgery. However, she had a cyanotic episode at her 1-week checkup, and at 9 days old, had open heart surgery to do a full correction. Now she visits her cardiologist annually to monitor her progress, but she is otherwise a thriving 7 year old who loves reading, learning about animals, and playing with her friends. She will need a valve replacement as a teen but the hope is that the innovation in cardiac surgery will enable a minimally invasive intervention when the time comes.
