2020 was a year for the unprecedented. While we all feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in our communities, the higher education system has been particularly hit hard.
We, as the Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) Graduate Fellowship Program, pride on our university partners and our ability to negotiate favorable tuition costs for our fellows. However, the financial constraints and other challenges that our partner universities are facing have affected our fund and ability to support fellowships for the new generations of Kosovars.
Despite this, our fellows continued to excel in their academic programs. 2020 was the year when one of our alumnae became the first person to graduate with a master’s degree in her family. It was also the year when three of our alumni took senior leadership and ministerial positions in the Government of Kosovo; the year when one of our alumnae celebrated the 10th anniversary of her media outlet. This year we also celebrated the program's 15th cohort--15 generations of talented individuals and leaders, pushing the boundaries of the possibility to create a better future for Kosovo.
KAEF is poised to lead new generations of fellows beyond today’s challenges and charge boldly toward a better tomorrow, but we need your help!
For the past 15 years, we have been investing in quality education, an education that enhances a cadre of trained individuals to address the country's shortfall in human capacity. Our program provides fully funded fellowships to Kosovo’s young leaders, who embark upon graduate studies at top U.S. universities. After returning to Kosovo, KAEF alumni have gone on to serve as businesspeople, entrepreneurs, government ministers, ambassadors, advisers, policymakers, lawyers, and civil society activists. KAEF alumni have managed development projects valued at over $88 million and launched more than 50 successful new businesses. Through job creation and smart policymaking, KAEF alumni help create a prosperous future in Kosovo.
American Councils for International Education administers the KAEF program in collaboration with an independent committee of regional experts, business leaders, and program alumni.
Kosovo's Future Begins with Education is a $50,000 fundraising campaign that will ensure KAEF’s position as a life-changing opportunity for exceptional young people with the potential to make a change in Kosovo and the world. While this goal is ambitious, we know that we can meet it through the continued generosity of our community of donors, friends and each and every supporter out there.
By joining our campaign, together we affirm that Kosovo's Future Begins with Education!
