Kaiser has been a strong team member for ACSAR as one of our Area Search K9 resources and Chris's K9 partner for the last 4 years going through two NSDA Certifications. He has been deployed several times and has had a successful find in which he ultimately saved the life of a person who was in dire need of being found before it was too late.
Chris found out that Kaiser had hip dysplasia when we was 1 year old, and that the only solution for Kaiser would be hip replacements in 3 - 4 years. Well guess what? He saw the orthopedist veterinarian on 5/14/19 at the Animal Surgical Center of MI for a re-evaluation due to an increase pain response and some gait movement issues. According to the specialist, he is an excellent candidate for hip replacements starting with the right side which clinically shows the most discomfort.
He is scheduled for Monday 5/20 for the right side and then 12 weeks later the left side. He will be off for 8 months total. We are happy to report the prognosis is excellent for a full recovery and back to ALL activities including Search and Rescue which he loves the most - pain free and full mobility! After his hip replacements, the specialist believes he will be back just as strong as ever.
Unfortunately, hip replacements are very costly. Surgery for both hips will cost $13,000, and we as a team want to help offset the cost as much as possible. As many know, our team is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and we rely heavily on public donations to help us continue the work that we do. We hope that you will find it in your hearts to help K9 Kaiser and his handler, Chris, in offsetting these costly procedures so we can get Kasier back in the field saving more lives! Thank you so much for your support!
