The Campaign
The National 4-H Youth Advisory Committee is a group of passionate young 4-H alumni from across the country who work alongside National 4-H Council to promote the 4-H program. We strive to share the stories of 4-H grown leaders and innovators and inspire the next generation of 4-H youth. As alumni, we understand the incredibly influential role 4-H can play in a child’s life, and our goal is to ensure that young alumni and others understand the value of investing in the lives of our future leaders.
When you give, 60% of your contribution will support the 4-H Grow True Leaders campaign to grow 4-H nationwide; 20% of will directly support the program that made a difference in my life – Tennessee 4-H; and 20% will support the YAC Cause for 2018: helping the Puerto Rico 4-H program that is still recovering after the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. Furthermore, donations made during this campaign are being matched by a generous donor. Every dollar you give will automatically be doubled to support our program.
My 4-H Story
Every year, over 6 million youth from across America participate in the 4-H program. From Public Speaking to Plant Science and Engineering to Entomology, there is a 4-H project area to match nearly all interests a young person could have. Through these 30+ project areas, 4-H changes kids’ lives.
I can certainly attest to the power of 4-H to make a difference in the life of a young person. When I first joined the organization in the 4th grade, I was a generally shy boy who lacked much confidence in himself. During my time in 4-H, though, I learned to be confident in my own skin. I saw immediate improvements in my ability to communicate with others and speak publicly. I also learned how to work with my peers and how to be resilient in times of failure. More than anything, 4-H taught me to take on new challenges and to boldly address any obstacle or opportunity that presents itself to me. But, I don’t just believe that 4-H positively affected my life. I’ve seen it positively affect my life! 4-H made it possible for a small-town boy like me to earn a college degree in The University of Tennessee’s premier scholarship program- the Haslam Scholars Program. 4-H made it possible for me to spend nearly 8 months abroad studying in London, researching in Scotland, and interlining in the UK Parliament.
It is for these reasons that I am so passionate about helping to give back to the program that has given me so much. That’s where you come in! The National 4-H Youth Advisory Committee is fundraising money to support initiatives of National 4-H Council and statewide programs throughout the country to continue growing and improving our program.
