Story
  Oct 01 2020

1 in 6 people in Topeka are at or below the national poverty level. Over 25,500 people in the Topeka community are Food Insecure - 20% of which are children. More than 16% of the Topeka population live at or below the poverty line. The needs of the community have been amplified due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic.

Join us in supporting the Junior League of Topeka's (JLT) 2nd Annual Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI), a campaign seeking to increase awareness about the effect of poverty on our community, while raising funds to support JLT's programs to fight community instability. Get ready for a week filled with meaningful conversations about limits in our community.

This year we are proud to be partnering with several community agencies to bring further awareness to the effects of generational poverty in our community.

LBDI is our advocacy campaign against limits in our community’s health.  For one week, October 19-23, LBDI advocates will be wearing the same Little Black Dress (or outfit) for FIVE days in a row. You may be wondering why a little black dress. We believe firmly that when a person lacks options they lack opportunity and by wearing the same dress daily advocates will spark conversations across their networks about the effects of community instability and the work the JLT does in Topeka.

Thank you for joining in our efforts and supporting our mission of developing the potential of women and vision of being catalysts for lasting community change.
