It is tradition in my family to watch the runners cross the NYC Marathon finish line; and for the past 24 years I have vowed that I would never be one of them... But 2019, marks the year I am afforded the opportunity to be included in the statistic and be one of those 52,000 runners instead of simply an onlooker, while supporting my favorite organization, the New York Junior League!
I have grown up surrounded by the impressive work the New York Junior League achieves; and more recently, have been getting my hands dirty and volunteering with an inspiring group of ladies!
If you know me, you know running is NOT a part of my athletic prowess; but I am willing to test my athletic ability for the opportunity to raise funds for an amazing organization. This is a bucket list item (living on the UES, there is no denying the excitement in the neighborhood on marathon weekend) I am making reality, while contributing to my city.
For those of you who haven’t heard me talk about the NYJL (rare) The NYJL is one of the oldest and largest women’s non-profit volunteer organizations in the city. We have more than 2,800 volunteers - of all races, religions, and ethnicities - who donate more than 250,000 hours of service every year. We train volunteers to develop skills for community work, to serve on boards, and to be leaders.
I am extremely proud to be a part of an organization that seeks to strengthen the health and well-being of the children and families of the greater New York City area. We could not achieve success in the community without our dedicated group of community partners, volunteers, and advisors. We work with over 20 different organizations, including schools, neighborhood centers, family shelters, senior residences, prisons, and hospitals, to achieve our dream of improving the health and well-being of countless individuals.
Please support me in this journey in any way you can! My goal is to raise $3,500 and to make this fun and interesting a donation of:
$50 buys you a coveted spot on my running playlist
$100 buys you two spots on my running playlist
I will listen to your favorite running songs at some point during the mile of your choice!!
