Feeling sad and worried about the temporary closure of Jubilee JumpStart (JJS), Nina Parsee wondered what she could do. Over the past year, Nina has volunteered at JJS, a child care and parent support program serving families with low incomes, and has grown to understand the importance of early education experiences for vulnerable children. She serves as the Family Lending Librarian each week, helping children choose a book to check out for reading aloud with their families. As a high school student stuck at home, Nina was missing JJS and realizing how hard it must be for the children under 5 who were stuck at home too. She also knew that her friends were feeling the same and that everyone was looking for something fun and helpful to do.
When Nina learned that JJS was facing a $100,000 budget gap due to the cancellation of an annual fundraiser, she found the place she could help. And to make it better, she brought friends along to make sure it was fun! Nina knows that she is looking forward to returning to JJS in her volunteer role. She also knows that is a fraction of how much the teachers and staff want to return. And even more, she knows the children and parents who come to JJS every day need the center to re-open just as strong and caring as ever. The loss of the fundraiser’s income threatens the financial health and stability of Jubilee JumpStart just when people need it most.
Nina and her friends are determined to do something to impact Jubilee JumpStart deeply. They created a 2-for-1 approach to help JJS – 1) Make some days a little more fun for children and a little less stressful for parents while at home, and 2) Ask friends and family to make contributions that will replace some of the lost fundraiser revenue. That’s how this GoFundMe Campaign was born – by smart, caring young people putting their heads and hearts together!
During the week of May 4 – May 8, Nina and 9 friends will host a series of LIVE experiences for children on Jubilee JumpStart’s Instagram and Facebook pages. Each Junior JumpStarter is trying to raise funds before and during their Live time with an audacious goal of $50,000! Starting Monday, May 4th at 11 AM, meet a different Junior JumpStarter each day on Facebook or Instagram.
