If you knew that genetics and fate might one day steal your mind/memories as a result of Alzheimer’s or Dementia, would you live your remaining days differently?
My Mother is one of the many unfortunate souls currently suffering from this horrible disease. While Im thankful she‘s still living, she has the type of dementia that effects language skills. Its nearly impossible to have a conversation with her. So I pretend to understand her nonsensical words and continue conversing as if it were the “old days.” I know my Mom is still in there somewhere, and Im dying to just talk...to tell her all about her amazing and beautiful grankids that she loves so much. She would be so proud of them. In frustration I often just hold her hand. Its in these moments of touch , love, and affection I can look into her eyes and actually get a brief glimpse of her old smile... and I swear, she feels me and recognizes I‘m her daughter.
At this stage of the disease, no treatment exists to bring Mom back to who she once was. But new research in Alzheimer’s prevention has made serious strides with exciting new discoveries, particularly as they relate to treating those diagnosed in the very early stages. Research is the key to finding a cure, and I choose to support this effort...fighting for those currently suffering, but also for those who may have an Alzheimer’s diagnosis in their future.
We need a treatment that will STOP this disease in its tracks. In the meantime, while i wait for a cure, I’m choosing to live as if I’ve got very little time left...in the moment, making healthy choices plus creating as many amazing experiences and memories as I possibly can. One of those experiences includes riding with my team, Rooster Racing, through 5 countries, raising money and awareness to Cure Alzheimer’s. I hope you’ll support me and my efforts to kick Alzheimer’s to the curb. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
My heartfelt ❤️ thanks, ,
