We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit booster club that supports the JP Taravella High School marching and concert band financially and organizationally. We recognize how vital music is to students' emotional, social, and cognitive development.
Unfortunately, the music program at our school and most schools in Broward County receives very little financial support from the school district. Our budget for purchasing music copyrights, hiring clinicians, repairing and purchasing instruments, and transporting the students and equipment to performances and competitions is provided almost entirely by contributions from parents, fundraising efforts, donations, and corporate sponsors.
Our program has a very diverse population coming from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Especially in the midst of this pandemic, some of our students struggle to meet the financial demands of participating in the program. We as a booster club do our best to help these students by providing fundraising opportunities to help cover these costs.
Due to the pandemic, our fundraising efforts have been all but cut off. Being located in the epicenter of the pandemic, we are limited to virtual fundraisers as we cannot hold car washes, work concession booths at the BBT Center, sell items in person, etc.
The band program offers a safe place for students. It is a place where they can all come together and work toward a common goal. Through hard work, perseverance, and many hours of sweat and tears, these students forge lifelong friendships. Shy, quiet students become strong leaders. Insecure students gain confidence. There is no bullying or one upmanship. They are a team who supports each other and are better people for having gone through this program together.
This week students will be returning to the band room. Our program needs to repair and replace instruments so that all students can have the opportunity to rent a school instrument instead of being forced to purchase or rent an instrument from a retail music store (at a much higher price). Your contribution will directly support the JPT music program by providing funds for instrument repairs and replacements, hiring clinicians to work directly with the students, purchasing new music for the students to perform, and ensuring this program can continue for years to come. Community contributions are vital to the success of our band program, and we are grateful for all donations!
