Jojo is at his happiest these days when he is able to ride with Ainsley’s Angels, and feel the wind on his face. He loves the rush of moving through space, pulling a volunteer along in joint harmony! You can see this in his smiling face, the way that he leans into the breeze, in the chair, catching all of the experience that he is able to absorb.
When Jojo knows that it is race day, he is awake and eager to go, rocking all the way to the race. Whether it is a 30 minute, or two-hour ride in the car to arrive at the race starting line, he is excited the whole way!
Jojo’s words are few, however we know that if he could pull a chariot and feel the wind in his face more often than when a race is scheduled with his Ainsley’s Angels family, he would be very happy.
Our family has recently been introduced to this wonderful and inclusive running family. Jojo has a rare chromosomal disorder, Kleefstra Syndrome, which has made walking difficult over time. He loves roller coasters and loud music. Running in races with Ainsley’s gives him the movement he craves.
The community of inclusion is incredible and he loves the opportunity to give fist bumps encouraging others and celebrating friendships. Ainsley’s Angels is more than running, it is about community, friendship and support of one another in a truly inclusive environment.
Ainsley’s Angels have given our family a sport that we are able to all participate at our own levels and grow stronger together. Jojo’s younger brother also runs with Ainsley’s Angels and he has a goal of pushing Jojo with their mom in a race in the near future. This is truly a labor of love and bonding that cannot be experienced any other way!
