As many of you know, InTandem (www.intandembike.org) is a huge part of my life. I am the Director of Operations for this organization, which provides FREE tandem cycling programs for people with disabilities who cannot ride on their own. Every spring, we utilize The TD Five Boro Bike Tour as our primary fundraiser that enables us to provide inclusive fitness and social programming throughout the year. This year, rather than asking folks to simply donate to support our ride and a wonderful cause, my friend Ruth Maldonado and I are organizing a fun party to give back to those contributing financially to InTandem’s mission. So please join us for some good company, stand-up comedy, dancing, and support the health and happiness of the disability community.
InTandem Comedy and Dancing Fundraising Party!
Where: STITCH Bar & Lounge, 247 W 37th St (near 8th Avenue), New York, NY 10018
When: March 14th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm
Cost: A minimum donation of $20 dollars on my fundraising page will serve as one ticket to the event. When making the donation, please include your name, so I know to put you on the event list. Donations of any size are much appreciated!
What: We will have two stand-up comedians and a variety of presentations from 7pm to 8pm. Comedians Victor Varnado and Christiana Jackson will be there to crack you up. We’ve also hired a professional DJ to get y’all moving from 8pm to 10pm. And you’ll get a chance to win some great prizes, including some beautiful artwork (needlepoint, a painting, and pottery), and more.

I have the honor of riding the Five Boro with Alexandra Harwood this year. Alexandra recently joined the InTandem community and immediately started training hard for the Five Boro! InTandem exists to serve people like Alex, who cannot ride on their own but love being on a bike. Alex had not had the opportunity to ride before joining InTandem. The feeling of speed and power she is able to create with her own body while riding a tandem is new and invigorating for Alex. And her joy is infectious. We ride together most Saturday mornings and she has been regularly training on her stationary bike at home. InTandem and the goal of completing the Five Boro has become a huge motivator for Alex to improve her health and a great outlet for her to make new friends. I look forward to riding with Alex for many years to come!
