Senior, overbred, neglected, and having never known love. Jolie was sentenced to death in a high kill Texas shelter. Her crime, being born bully in South Texas where thousands of companion animals are thrown away like trash everyday, unwanted and discarded.
But K9Kare could not accept that and against all odds embarked upon a mission to find a way for Jolie to make it out alive.
Prayers were answered and mountains moved. A beautiful family stepped up to give her a home. They looked past her age; they looked past her overbred body and they opened their hearts and home to Jolie.
On January 16 she left Texas and embarked upon a journey that would be both beautiful and tragic. She found love, she gave love and she changed the lives of many forever.
Jolie was surrended by her owner to the shelter with milk. The shelter was told the babies had been taken from her and K9Kare was informed an Xray had been taken - no babies.
On January 18 Jolie arrived and was immediately loved by all. She became fast soul mates with her sister bully and she stole the hearts of her new family.
On January 27 Jolie brought a surprise into the new family's life - eight beautiful little bully babies. Despite her age, the neglect, the betrayal and the long journey Jolie was an amazing mother. Her new family stood by her and provided her and the babies with the best of care.
But almost immediately there were complications. Some of the babies struggled and two were lost to fading puppy syndrome.
Febuary 6 brought a devasting blow to all that loved Jolie and had been following her journey. She had become lethargic and unwilling to eat. A trip to the veternarian revealed a high fever. This led to testing that uncovered some masses, fluid on the lungs and an aggressive case of mastitis. She declined quickly with a very poor prognosis.
While Jolie's life was one of neglet and abandonment before she left this Earth she found a family of loving Angels and she knew she was loved. She has left behind a legacy in her remaining babies which are being cared for around the clock by this amazing family and they need our help.
An extensive vet bill which included several trips to and overnight stays at the critical care ER has been incured trying to save momma Jolie and the babies. The remaining six babies are doing well and Jolie's legacy lives on through them, but they continue to need bottle baby supplies and care.
We believe Jolie had a purpose. And that purpose was to be a voice for all the dogs in Texas. Especially the momma dogs. She is just one of many being used and neglected. Having litter after litter to make a few bucks for uncaring and neglectful owners. She most likely had all her previous litters in a dirty back yard denied basic care and nutrition to raise her babies. Undoubtedly, many of her previous puppies suffered and died from lack of care, parasites, and disease.
But Jolie held on long enough to make it out of Texas and leave her last puppies in a safe and loving home. Jolie was a very special dog with a purpose in life. She has helped so many to realize how sweet and loving bullies are and she has brought awareness to the dire stituation in South Texas.
Please help us recover from these unexpected expenses so that we may continue our work and keep Jolie's legacy and message alive.
