If you've seen me change and grow in my past few years, you probably know how integral Seeding Change has been to my growth as a person. I don't exaggerate when I say that I would not be the same person today if not for Seeding Change!
In summer 2016, I joined a national cohort of Asian American young people all interested in social justice, all holding different identities and experiences. I connected with a political Bay Area community that I never knew about growing about growing up in Cupertino, a wealthy, predominately Asian American suburb. I leaned into my political education and deepened my commitment to social justice. I found a new community of people I could laugh, play, commiserate, and conspire with.
If you have any money to spare, please consider donating to sow more seedlings~
We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, Knowing that they hold future promise. -Oscar Romero, “Future Not Our Own”
In 2014, the Chinese Progressive Association launched Seeding Change – A Center for Asian American Movement Building. Rooted in CPA’s 40+ years of grassroots organizing and alliance building, Seeding Change hopes to explore and build a national pipeline for the next generation of AAPI organizers; create an infrastructure for AAPI grassroots organizing; and experiment with building power and scale for our movements toward a vibrant social and economic justice movement.
We turned 6 this year! WOW!
Over the past 6 years we have graduated over 120 fellows (we are an alumni network of 145 people with our Eva Lowe Fellows from 2010-2013!) and placed them in 25 organizations across the country.
Our fellows have gone on to do amazing things— organizing in immigrant and refugee communities, becoming movement lawyers, writing, creating art, teaching, working on policy— and working on all the issues we care about. There is no doubt that the experience at Seeding Change is an impactful and transformational one.
YOU can help us sustain this beautiful work for the long run.
This summer, we are trying to raise $10K to go towards the program. Join our 20 fellows, many of whom are fundraising for the first time, by creating your own fundraising page and be a part of our team. Or you can donate directly here and let other folks know that you just supported a grassroots effort to develop leadership for our communities for the long haul. Take a minute to learn about each of our fellows this summer and to check out what they're up to this summer. We know that you will be inspired by them, as we are.
