Every time I see and hear people in NYC and around world stop at 7pm, go outside, and bang pots and cheer, to say thank you to our frontline healthcare workers, I am awed and greatly moved. For 24 years I have been privileged to be a part of the Holy Redeemer Healthcare System. As a physician in private practice who admits and cares for patients at Holy Redeemer, I have enjoyed working with an amazing group of people. Not just Doctors and Nurses but hundreds of other invaluable staff, without whom I could not care for my patients. Maintainence workers, clerks, housekeepers, food service workers, nursing assistants, therapists and many more. These awesome people do not have the luxury of staying quarantined. They come to work so you can stay home. Many of these great people need help. They may have spouses that are laid off. They may have children who are out of school but they have to pay for someone to care for them while they continue to come to work at the hospital. Despite all of the hardships that most of us are facing, and despite the great personal danger these health system workers face every day, simply by coming to work, they still come. They come because that is what they do. They help people. Despite the risk they are taking with their own lives, despite the risk they are taking by potentially exposing their families, they come to help. The COVID-19 Employee and Redeemer Family Impact Fund was established to support employees and other members of the Redeemer Family who are experiencing financial hardships as a result of the COVID-19 public health and economic crisis. This fund will provide tax free grants that will not have to be repaid. This fund was created to help these selfless people continue to do what they do. I know that we are all facing uncertainy, but I also know that we will get through this together. Please join me in giving whatever you can, large or small, to say thank you, and to help those who continue to do all that they can to help you and our community. Grants will be given to those in our health system in the most need as a result of the Covid 19 Pandemic. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please forward it to any all that may be able to help. This fundraising campaign will last for 6 weeks. Over that time I hope to repeatedly update this page with pictures of those working so hard in this crisis.
