"If Dogs Run Free, Then Why Not We"--B. Dylan and J. Culver
John Bowen Culver LOVED music.
On vinyl, CD, cassette, 8-track and, espcially, in person. He understood the Neil Young adage, 'Live Music is Better. Bumper Stickers Should Be Issued', as well as anyone. On any given night, you could find John at the Laurelthirst, Madison Square Garden, Mississippi Studios, The Kenton Club, The MGM Grand Arena, Revolution Hall, The Aladdin Theater, The Showbox, a beach in Mexico or countless other venues that have great music, cold beer and a place to sit. It hardly mattered who was playing, as long as they 'brought it' and attempted to blow the roof off the joint or, at the very least, levitate the audience.
So it only makes sense that Culver would've wanted any contributions in his name to help Portland-area musicians through medical crises and financial hardship.
Rest in Music, JC.
