Dear Family & Friends,
I’ll get right to the point. I want your money. But it’s for a good cause and I am willing to earn it. I have agreed to be part of the American Cancer Society’s “Real Men Wear Pink Providence” fund drive to support women with breast cancer. I know what you’re thinking. Linda has ovarian cancer. Why raise funds for breast cancer? Let someone else do it. Some people questioned me riding in the Pan Mass Challenge ten years ago to raise funds for Dana Farber. Linda was getting treatment at Women and Infants Hospital. Why not raise funds for them? Fast forward to now. Linda is in her third clinical trial at Dana Farber and who knows, the money that I raised for them may have come back to help Linda now.
So how do I propose to earn it? I plan to ride with my two neighbors Russ Silva and Tony Zuena from my home in Snug Harbor to Watch Hill and back a total of 56 miles. The ride date is Saturday, September 21 starting at 7:00 am. I am looking to raise between $2,500 - $5,000.
You can help me reach that goal by contributing $25, $50, $100 dollars; any amount would be sincerely appreciated! You can contribute on line by clicking the following link: crowdrise.com/Joe’s-real-men-ride. You can also help by spreading the word to your family and friends.
Linda and I are grateful for all of the support that we have received since her diagnosis 15 years ago. She has been in treatment for 11 of those years. Were it not for the excellent care that she has received and for the outpouring of support from family and friends she would not be here and I could not have done what I have as a caregiver to support her.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for your consideration of my request.
