The Joe Andruzzi Foundation is committed to providing help, hope, and a reason to smile, for New England cancer patients and their families by contributing financial support when it is needed most.
I have been training all summer to run the Falmouth Road Race again with the incredible Joe Andruzzi Foundation, an organization that holds a near and dear place in my heart. JAF was founded by former New England Patriot Joe Andruzzi and his wife Jen after Joe was battled and beat Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
I was first introduced to JAF through my friend Samantha, a grant recipient, who bravely battled clear cell sarcoma. Sam's cancer journey was the first time I had really been exposed to the heartbreak that cancer causes, and I wish I could say it was the last.
As Joe, and many others, can attest, cancer doesn’t discriminate. JAF provides grants to New England cancer patients and their families so that instead of worrying about everyday expenses, all they have to focus on is kicking cancer to the curb. These grants help families cover their car payments, rent, mortgage, and utility bills as well as other household expenses. This is one of many reasons why I am so proud to support and run beside an organization whose mission is to provide financial and emotional support to families who are in the middle of an unthinkable and exhausting battle.
Cancer has not been kind to our family this year.
Not only has it taken lives, but it has been a harsh reminder that life is fragile and that we should spend day living it to the fullest. Watching friends and family members battle the unthinkable has also reminded me why I run and why I run for JAF. No patient or family should be alone in these battles, and this amazing foundation provides much needed support.
Despite the heat and the rain this summer, my dedication to, and purpose for, representing JAF and our cancer patients has never wavered. As we head into the home stretch before experiencing the sights, sounds, and beaches (and pups to pet!) of the Falmouth Road Race, I hope that you will consider donating to this special organization as we all work to #UpBeatCancer so that someday it isn’t necessary.
