Crossing the Boston Marathon finish line in 2018 was a moment in my life I will never forget. Running 26.2 miles in freezing rain and gale force headwinds was definitely not how I pictured my first marathon. Despite the nightmarish weather, giving up was never an option because I was running for something greater than myself and greater than just 26.2 miles.
On April 20th, 2020, I will be lacing up my shoes again for another cause that is near and dear to my heart, and I know you will share my passion for it. The Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) was established to serve cancer patients of all ages throughout New England who experience the hidden costs of cancer as a result of a diagnosis. Cancer-related income loss or reduction combined with rising treatment costs often leads to financial stress as families struggle to cover their everyday expenses. JAF understands that crucial living expenses are not put on hold because of a diagnosis, and our Financial Assistance Program helps alleviate financial stress through the distribution of grants and gift cards to assist with rent/mortgage payments, utilities, food, and other household expenses. In 2018, JAF distributed a record-breaking $1.13M in direct financial assistance, impacting more than 4,000 people affected by cancer.
Running for JAF is very personal and meaningful to me. Cancer is a disease we are all impacted by, directly or indirectly, and we all know how challenging a cancer patient's fight can be. It's an uphill battle - and by running the marathon on behalf of JAF, we're able to help members of our New England community when they need it the most allowing them to focus their energy where it counts - on getting better and spending valuable time with their loved ones. Please help me in surpassing my lofty fundraising goal of $15,000. $15,000 would enable us to help a minimum of 18 active cancer patients in the New England community. How special is that?
Thank you in advance for your loving support in my fundraising as well as your encouragement in my training. Please forward my fundraising page to anyone you think may want to donate & please feel free to leave a comment "in honor" or "in memory" to inspire me to work even harder with your specific loved ones in my mind and heart. If you would prefer to contribute via cash or check, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can send you my home address. Hope to see you on race day - this time, hopefully a bit drier!
With love and gratitude,
The Joe Andruzzi Foundation is committed to providing help, hope, and a reason to smile, for New England cancer patients and their families by contributing financial support when it is needed most.
