As a member of the United States Air Force for over 20 years, I have never deployed overseas or been placed in harms way, but yet I am often approached while in uniform by strangers who thank me for my service. I always smile and simply thank them while quietly knowing that in reality I am accepting their thanks on behalf of those who are the real defenders of our great country such as the Navy SEALs. To honor these brave heroes, I will be participating in the Tampa Bay Frogman Swim on January 12, 2020. This is a 5K swim across the chilly waters of Tampa Bay to help raise money to benefit the families of wounded or fallen Navy SEALs through the Navy SEAL Foundation.
The Navy SEAL Foundation provides immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Community and its families, particularly during times of illness, injury, loss, and transition. It is a tremendous cause, benefiting a community that has been stretched to the limit since 9/11. Their triumphs have been lauded and well documented, but their losses have been significant with long-lasting impacts to these Warriors and their families. All funds raised for this incredible cause will go to the Navy SEAL Foundation and donations are tax deductible as the Navy SEAL Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity.
I am not particularly fond of the cold water, but as I train for and swim this year's Frogman event, I plan to “embrace the suck” of the cold water as a small effort to honor those who are the true warriors. Please consider helping give back to those individuals and families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy by either making a donation or telling friends and family members about this endeavor. Thank you so much for your support!
