This will be my first ever marathon!
I've always thought that, if I were to ever attempt such a feat, it would be the Lewa Marathon ... what could be better than running out in the bush amongst rhino, elephants, lion and the like?
The problem has always been, June is the safari season here in Kenya and I'm out in the bush guiding, so I've always had an excuse not to put myself through the training and both physical and mental anguish required to achieve this goal.
COVID-19 has taken that excuse away. Tourism around the world has ground to a halt and, for Kenya and our wildlife, that has been a particularly hard hit. Conservation areas like Lewa, which is one of Kenya's few rhinoceros conservancies, rely heavily on conservation fees from visiting tourist to help fund the ongoing conservation and community outreach efforts that protect these magnificent beasts.
In a normal season, many of East Africa Safari Ventures' guests would visit Lewa, paying thousands of $$ to keep the conservation efforts running. We'd like to invite you to help us raise funds to cover the shortfall that Lewa now has because safari visitors from our company and many others are now unable to fulfil their dreams of visiting Africa on safari.
You can donate to our Team effort through this Go Fund me page and I promise to run faster and further for every dollar we can raise. Alternatively, run some or all of the marathon distance with me on June 27th 2020 and help collect funds for the Lewa Conservancy.
Thanks so much for your assistance,
Joe & East Africa Safari Ventures' Rhino Run Team
