Dear Friends of Family Promise,
My wife Mary and I first became involved with Family Promise about twenty years ago when we were living in a different community. Back then the organization was known as Interfaith Hospitality Network, but the mission was the same: to provide temporary housing and support to families with children as they achieved sustainable independence. For more than two decades we have seen first-hand countless examples where Family Promise has enabled families to achieve this goal.
Since March of this year because of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, life has been more challenging for all of us. But for many of the families served by Family Promise, these hardships have occurred on top of some underlying stressful circumstances.
Through these challenging times – as it has done for the past sixteen years – Family Promise of Summit County has been there to support families with children. Through our network of host and support congregations; many volunteers; and dedicated staff, we have been able to provide families with a safe place to sleep, nutritious meals, guidance, and eventual placement into permanent housing. Although our congregations found it necessary to temporarily suspend hosting families in their buildings, Family Promise was able to care for families as apartments became available in our new Glendora House facility.
Once the renovation of Glendora House is fully completed this fall, Family Promise will be able to house nine families at that location. This is in addition to the four families typically hosted by our congregations – once we are able to resume the ‘rotation model.’ Thus, we have the potential to increase from four to thirteen the number of families we can serve at any given time. What a CHALLENGE for Family Promise! More importantly – WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY!!
As the chair of Family Promise of Summit County’s board of directors, I am incredibly passionate about our mission to help homeless families with children achieve sustainable independence.
In the spirit of #StrongerTogether, Mary and I will match Friend of Family Promise Challenge donations, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000!
Please accept our personal CHALLENGE to you in a way which will allow you to double the impact of your donation. Join us in taking the Friend of Family Promise Challenge to serve homeless families with children in our community!
With deep appreciation for your support,
Jim and Mary Strang
