Social Solidarity, Physical Distance!
Pandemics can't divide us!! The revolution starts at home!!
The big event is Wednesday! RSVP here to attend via zoom, and cheer us on!!
We are members of Jews for Racial & Economic Justice [JFREJ], ready to THROW DOWN ON ZOOM to fundraise for our beloved comrades at CAAAV! At this year's CAAAV Karaoke Battle, JFREJ will bring the BEST of our harmonies and moves for the love of this transformative grassroots organization. We're especially excited to support them as we move this party online!
JFREJ and CAAAV’s collaboration dates back to the '90s, when we began to organize together for police accountability. In the early 2000s, we partnered closely with Domestic Workers United, then a project of CAAAV. In 2007, CAAAV and JFREJ joined scores of other grassroots organizations to form the Right to the City Alliance, a unified response to gentrification. JFREJ members joined hundreds of other New Yorkers to support post-Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in Chinatown led by CAAAV. JFREJ and CAAAV are among the organizational members of Communities United for Police Reform, a ground-breaking citywide coalition that organizes to change the NYPD. And last year, we teamed up to defeat the corrupt Amazon HQ2 deal, and we won!!
Like JFREJ, in this moment CAAAV's work has dramatically shifted and evolved as we now find ourselves in the middle of a global crisis. While the core of their strategy remains the same, their campaigns have shifted to meet the current moment. They are providing vital mutual aid to their members, fighting to #CancelRent, and building cross-racial solidarity with Black communities while fighting anti-Asian violence.
CAAAV is consistently pushing social justice campaigns and coalitions to be transformative, not transactional, and to center the voices of frontline communities. We honor them as a unique and powerful grassroots organization, with an incomparable record of risk-taking!
