Mrs. P, originally from South Carolina, came to the metro DC area when she was 30 years old. She bought her PG County home in 1974 and has been living in it for 44 years. After her daughter died, her two grandchildren, Ebony and Suliman, came to live with her. She devoted her time and resources to raising her grandchildren. Mrs. P also took care of her neighbors, cooking for everyone and inviting all the kids into her home after school.
The grandchildren have fond memories of helping their grandmother in her backyard garden and climbing the pear tree in the front yard.
Mrs. P fell ill in 2015. During this tough time, Ebony left her job as a medical assistant moving back home with her teenage daughter to take care of her grandmother full time. Without her regular income, the family has struggled to take care of an aging home.
One of Ebony’s biggest wishes for her grandmother, is to have a safer better functioning bathroom free of mildew and leaks. “She is a selfless special woman who deserves a decent bathroom.”
YACHAD will be working with the family, volunteers and trades people to fix and improve plumbing issues in the kitchen and bathrooms, fix electrical problems throughout the house, repair the roof, rehab the bathroom, and replace the washing machine. In addition, the house needs wall and ceiling repairs and painting.
Funding is needed to cover supplies, materials and outside professional contractors.
