My running career started by accident. I was teaching at Memorial Parkway Junior High when the staff let me know we could raise funds for the Katy ISD education foundation by running in the Katy Half Marathon or 5K. I was not a runner, but after a few training sessions, a friend talked me into running the half relay with her. I finished that first 6.7 miles and I remember saying “That was crazy, who would ever run 13.1 miles for fun? I am never running again!” Three days later I signed up for the Divas Half Marathon in Galveston. It took me completing 12 half marathons before I had the crazy thought “I just finished 13.1 miles, I could turn around and do that again.” 8 months later, I completed the 2020 Houston Marathon.
I met Rebekah while I was coaching her sister, Allie, at Stars Gymnastics in Houston. During the peak of her recovery period, Rebekah would roll into practice to watch Allie do what she loved. She was dealt a complicated hand, but I was amazed by the positivity and gratitude for the simple things that oozed from her during that difficult period. Rebekah continued to be an inspiration as I watched her publish her book and start this amazing charity, Rebekah’s Angles.
I am so honored to be asked to run the Boston Marathon on their behalf! I have not trained since the Houston Marathon. This was just the challenge I needed to start up again. Please help me raise $7,000 and follow along with my 18-week journey to the Boston Marathon.
