I will be participating in a mission (ishiglobal.org) in Peru in May 2018. I will be playing the role of logistics officer for ISHI (International surgical health initiative). The International Surgical Health Initiative is a humanitarian non-profit organization that provides free surgical care to underserved communities, worldwide, regardless of race, religion, politics, geography or financial considerations. It is entirely organized, managed and operated by volunteers, who want to give back to the less fortunate people in need of surgical care.
The organization provides care to the impoverished population. Part of their mission is to test the operating rooms and system to help the local team build for the future expansion of service. The other part revolves around building make-shift infrastructures in an effort to provide surgical offerings to people. I am continuously looking into different volunteering initiatives but found this one to be an amazing offering as on average, this initiative is able to assist 50-100 children with surgical interventions in impoverished places using only what is in their surroundings and what they can bring.
