My name is Jessica Kaiser and I will be participating in the Chicago Marathon on October 13, 2019 and the Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge January 9-12, 2020 benefiting NORD's Running for Rare program! I chose NORD as my charity of choice because my family has a personal connection to their mission.
In March 2010, my son developed very enlarged lymph nodes on one side of his neck. We spent a week in the hospital being told it was either an infection or lymphoma, and they weren’t sure which. After a biopsy, we learned he actually had a rare condition called Rosai-Dorfman disease where the body overproduces a certain type of white blood cell. It’s so rare that most pediatricians have never heard of it. We have been incredibly lucky - our son’s condition eventually resolved on its own and has so far not returned. I’m running for rare to help raise awareness for the many conditions that people are diagnosed with, but for which resources are limited, and to help patients get accurately diagnosed with rare conditions.
I hope you'll help support my efforts in raising awareness for rare diseases!
