My daughter, Kim, and I are joining efforts to raise money for an incredible U.S. organization - NISGUA - that supports poor and indigenous Guatemalans in their quest for justice for genocide, human rights, and in their work to ensure their livelihood. While not working directly in the field of migration, NISGUA’s efforts to support just policies and application of the law in this country from which thousands of migrants flee directly address the roots of migration and the border crises we have observed here in the U.S.
Kim, a former Human Rights Accompanier with NISGUA in Guatemala, worked to ensure the physical safety of the Guatemalans working on these important efforts. Kim’s work and passion for the mission of the organization prompted me to join the board of NISGUA as treasurer, and facilitated my firm belief in its mission for justice in Guatemala. Will you join Kim and I to raise $2,000 for justice in Guatemala? Now through the end of May, your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous group of donors who have challenged NISGUA to raise $35,000, allowing it to raise up to $70,000! Any gift, large or small, is very much appreciated!
The Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA) works in the U.S. and Guatemala to strengthen the global movement for justice, human dignity, and respect for the Earth.
Formed in 1981, at the height of Guatemala’s Internal Armed Conflict, NISGUA’s network today is comprised of thousands of people across the U.S. who demand justice, challenge corporate-led development, and push to change current U.S. policies.
Using strategies that include international human rights accompaniment, digital organizing and communications, horizontal exchange, rapid response activism and advocacy, and campaigns, NISGUA builds mutually beneficial, cross-border networks to support social and environmental activists in Guatemala.
