Last year I sat in the stands after finishing the 5k, listening to people explain why they were running or who they were running for and asked myself they same question. The answer I came up with was not for a specific person. It was because I could run. I thought of all our service members we lost overseas and here at home that could not run. I thought about our Veterans who could not be in the setting of Fenway Park or even leave their house.
This run is about our heroes who suffer from the wounds and pain brought back from war. Heroes who have or think about taking their own lives. Although I served in the Army, I did not have to experience the tragedies and horrors of combat. I can't tell a combat Veteran I know how you feel because I wasn't there. But I can tell a combat Veteran even though I wasn't there I still care about you. What better way to show I care then to run for our heroes.
