Team Jennie’s Gems walk with great pride in honor of the memory of the marvelous Jennie Weyburne.
Did you know my mother was blind? She was a charismatic, huge hearted, radiant woman who raised ten kids while dealing with Retinitis Pigmentosa. She had a full life with just keeping track of us! But she really hit her stride when Cleveland Sight Center provided her mobility services (white cane training), independent living skills, physical fitness and an unmatched social and creative space where she developed a ton of skills and made a bunch of friends. Cleveland Sight Center changed her life.
As no blindness or low vision experience is the same, every client at Cleveland Sight Center (CSC) has a different story and a unique journey on their own path to independence. At this year’s White Cane Walk, Jennie's Gems will celebrate Jennie, Scott, and all of CSC's clients and the unique barriers the blind and low vision community have overcome.
White Cane Walk is an event to raise funds for services provided to the people of Northeast Ohio. This year White Cane Walk is a virtual walk! It means you can walk anywhere – your neighborhood, the park, any place you like – on your own or with family and friends…while helping to raise funds for Cleveland Sight Center! Fundraising is vital to the continuation of programs and services, which are not covered by medical insurance. 100% of the dollars raised go directly towards the services provided to individuals who are experiencing vision loss. While we won’t physically be together for this year’s White Cane Walk, we will all be walking on our own for the same reason – to empower individuals of all ages with low vision or blindness to live independently and realize their full potential.
Please walk with Jennie's Gems virtually and donate to the cause. Learn more: Whitecanewalk.org #WhiteCaneWalkCleveland.
