UPAVIM’s mission: to support the women of La Esperanza in their fight for better economic, healthcare and educational opportunities for themselves, their families and their community. Here is the website: https://upavim.org/
I went to visit my good friend Katie Abbott in Guatemala about 5 years ago! She was volunteering at UPAVIM as a teacher and a mentor to students in the school. I was so moved by the work, the people, the community, and the country that I joined the board about a year ago.
As a board member, we do everything we can to support the women at UPAVIM, stay out of the day-to-day, and let the community lead their school, bakery, and health clinic. We are responsible for financially supporting the work to educate and provide a safe space for the youth and women of La Esperanza, Guatemala City. Specifically, I care deeply about our school, which serves hundreds of students each year and allows them to feel safe, be challenged, and even learn English. These kids, who live in some of the most challenging conditions I've ever witnessed, are resilient, driven, innocent, and strong.
In honor of my 34th year, can you please support me in my Birthday Campaign to raise money for the UPAVIM School? My goal is $1000, and if everyone contributes something - even something small like $5 or $10 - we will get there!
Thanks for considering - it means a lot!
