Since 1980, Jenesse Center, Inc. has been helping families to escape and overcome the trauma of domestic violence. Through our comprehensive, holistic service approach to domestic violence intervention, Jenesse seeks to remove every conceivable barrier, including financial obstacles, to overcoming the effects of domestic abuse and breaking the cycle of violence that ensnares so many families.
Our Mission is to provide survivors of domestic and sexual violence, with a comprehensive centralized base of support that is culturally responsive, and ensures their transition from immediate crisis to stability and self-sufficiency.
Prevention: Through our outreach programs, free legal clinics, and media outlets, including Internet resources, we have been able to reach and educate more than a million people about the issue of domestic violence and its effect on American families.
Intervention: During our years of service to the community, Jenesse Center has housed more than 15,000 victims and survivors of domestic violence in our emergency and transitional shelters.
Economic abuse impacts the lives of most, if not all, survivors of domestic violence. Controlling or withholding access to economic resources, ruining credit, sabotaging a job, and depriving someone from meeting basic needs are tactics used by individuals who choose to be abusive towards their partners. Jenesse Center knows first-hand the importance of financial literacy education and empowerment in ensuring the long-term stability and self-sufficiency of domestic violence survivors.
Through comprehensive programs, families can overcome the effects of domestic violence and lead the lives they envision for themselves and their children. An example of this is Jenesse's Allstate Financial Literacy and Empowerment Program, an on-site vocational assessment, job-readiness, and financial management program that provide survivors of domestic violence with all the tools they need to master their financial future and attain self-sufficiency.
"I now have a bank account. You see that car - it is mine. I did not think I could ever get a car again because my husband destroyed my credit. This is possible because of Jenesse and the Allstate Financial Literacy and Empowerment program. ~ Former Jenesse client
