Jeff was taken to the emergency room on January 23rd, 2019 because he had been experiencing severe back pain, shortness of breath, little appetite, weight loss, and low blood pressure. A biopsy revealed he had Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer that metastasized to his liver.
Pancreatic Cancer is typically diagnosed at a late stage because it doesn't cause symptoms until it's too late to help the patient. To date, there is no way to detect this form of cancer.
Jeff's oncologist, Dr. D'Olympio heads a team of compassionate personnel at the Monter Center dedicated to easing each person's treatment. Both Jeff and I were so pleased to have such an experienced, committed, sensitive doctor during this time. After meeting with Dr. D'Olympio, Jeff agreed to try chemotherapy with the goal to clear cancer in his liver. He then could receive a nerve block to ease the pain that his pancreatic tumor was causing. Jeff was only able to endure one round of outpatient chemo before his body broke down and he passed away on March 4, 2019.
No one should have to go through what Jeff went through. Hopefully, Jeff's memorial fund will help find a cure for this horrible disease!
