As a college student I studied in Medellin, Colombia, a city of eternal spring with lovely people proud of their flowers, their coffee and their dance music. I discovered how much I loved to travel, exploring the country by bus along with the chickens.
I also learned about my privilege. I’ve dedicated much of my life to creating a more just world usually by working against an injustice. By creating the world we want Fair Trade addresses human trafficking, immigration, labor and women’s rights, education, peace and the environment .
But I didn’t know how much it would enrich my life. Each time I wear my Fair Trade paper bead necklace I feel a connection to the Ugandan woman who made it. I am in deep solidarity with the Guatemalan women who grow our Fair Trade LA coffee. It’s the closest thing to travel.
I want more people to have that experience. That’s why I’m inviting you to support Fair Trade LA. We're spreading the word that there's a different way of living. All children deserve to go to school. All people deserve dignity and respect. Join our effort to create such a world. No amount is too small!
Or maybe just donate as an early birthday gift to me. Just as important, I hope you experience the joy of shopping Fair Trade.
