Growing up, Jamyle Cannon struggled with anger management and frequently got into fights as a child. But when he took up boxing, the sport gave him an outlet where he could channel his energy. Jamyle became a competitive boxing champion in college and then pursued a career in education. While teaching at a school on the turbulent West Side of Chicago, he started a boxing club for students and noticed that their grades and behavior improved. So, in 2016, he founded The Bloc, a nonprofit that uses boxing training as a hook to get students in the door and then provides them with mentoring and tutoring. The co-ed program has a 100 percent high school graduation rate and is helping hundreds of young people lay the groundwork for a successful future.
