I am Jamie Pittman, and Kellie Two Arrows is my 7 month old border collie. We are currently in a Train Your Own Service Dog program through The Dog Alliance, Cedar Park, Texas. It is an Assistance Dog International program. There is no doubt we will complete this course because I have had a service dog;
My disabilities for needing the service dog are PTSD and Light Mobility Assistance.
This course will take up to 18 months and up to $2500 for training fees, my background check, Neutering the dog, Kellie's hip x-ray. There are also application fees totaling $350, Doctor visit for my needs evaluation, and, my gasoline use will increase by about $5/week. The service dog tack ... and the cost of lots of weenies and peanutbutter for dog training treats!
ABOUT KELLIE TWO ARROWS: Kellie will be trained to retrieve things I drop, bring the phone or my walker, search my place before I enter, walk circles around me when a crowd is pressing in too close to me, comfort me when I become overwhelmed, wake me from nightmares, remind me to take meds, offer me tactile support, provide me with an excuse to leave a place. She will be so good for me! Kellie is so affectionate, loyal, and brave. She is absolutely smart enough to anticipate my needs.
I am a 65 yr old retired RN, disabled in 2014 for joint issues and cardiac issues. I served 30 years serving the public as an RN, a wonderful and noble career choice where I compassionately took care of people I did not know, while causing my own body to break down. When disabled, I used all of my retirement savings supporting myself and paying all of my medical bills out of pocket because I could not get Medicare for the 1st 2 years of disability. I used my own retirement funds for my medical needs. Currently, my only income is social security.
I am able to care for my dog and myself. But, the all around cost of training the dog exceeds my $ abilities. And, yes, this is way cheaper than buying a service dog. (My previous service dog was donated to me, Thank you Gaye Bougie.)
Personally, I am also a community chaplain. Look for Chaplain Jamie on Fb. I do things in the community that do not bring a paycheck, like volunteering at Falcon Ridge Nursing Home in Hutto for 5 years (2014-2019). I also do counselling and ministering via messenger chat for anyone who asks, and have counselled those in South Africa, Austrailia, UK, South America, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and USA. And, I host a weekly online prayer group.
In 2002-2007 I did foreign missions work. To $ support that, I sold my home + returned to the USA every 90 days to do contract RN work to help support that mission. My home church, then Covenant House, Liberty, Texas, also helped $.
MY HOPE: is that you can assist me. I understand that not everyone can... after all, some of my friends live on social security only, and that is difficult, I know. But, if you can donate, God bless you 100 times! If you cannot, would you please remember our need in prayer? May every blessing be yours.
