We welcome donations in memoriam of Carol Senter. She was a vital part of our community and we hope that this relief fund would make her proud. Please make a note in the transaction that your donation is in honor of Carol, so that we may notify her family of your contributions. Thank you.
UPDATED May 14 - Success!! Thank you to all of our donors. Every $500 raised is a cash grant that we can give. We will continue this crowdfunding campaign, in the hopes of being able to award additional rounds of grants to our initial group of applicants. Please continue spreading the word!
The Jamaica Plain Main Streets Relief Fund is meant to assist residents and/or employees in Jamaica Plain who are otherwise unable or ineligible to receive financial assistance from other sources. JP Centre/South Main Streets, Three Squares Main Street, and Egleston Square Main Street are working together to administer a relief fund that will benefit those residents and employees in the form of a $500 cash grant. The ultimate goal of our fund is to maintain the vitality and life of our community throughout the Coronavirus/COVID-19 shutdown and crisis.
Who will benefit?
The fund will be open to residents or any employees of Jamaica Plain businesses. We would like to place people of color, all genders, people without papers, people formerly incarcerated, and those facing housing instability at the front of the line for support.
The fund will distribute cash grants of $500 each to recipients. The total number of grants will depend on the success of the campaign. Recipients will be selected by representatives from each of the Main Streets organizations. Selected recipients will be encouraged to take advantage of the Family Prosperity Financial Coaching program through the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation, where they will learn of other sources of financial assistance and benefits.
You can HELP.
As we look to sustain our community, repair this rupture, and rebuild, we wish to build mechanisms that will benefit neighbors most traditionally marginalized. Your contribution will make a difference to those who cannot receive relief through public assistance and other forums. Moreover your contribution will preserve our community at large, particularly our small businesses.
The CARES Act has made possible a unique charitable tax deduction for 2020. For the 90% of US taxpayers who claim the standard deduction on their taxes, the Federal government is allowing a $300 "above-the-line" charitable deduction in an effort to stimulate giving to charities in the time of COVID-19. We ask that you donate your $300 to this campaign through JP Centre/South Main Streets - a registered 501(c)3 organization.
The fund is made possible by a seed grant of $5000 from the Grenier Family of Jamaica Plain. This crowdfunding campaign will hopefully match and exceed their generous donation. We wish to thank the Grenier Family for their initiative.
