On Wednesday June 5th - Global Running Day - the PS/IS 180 Hugo Newman Jaguars will run the 5th Annual Jag-a-Thon, an event that encourages physical activity, well being and social stewardship across the Hugo Newman community. Along with running laps around the track in the schoolyard, Hugo Newman students engage directly in ongoing efforts for school enrichment and improvement by asking family, friends, neighbors and members of the Harlem community to invest in these worthwhile initiatives.
Last year Hugo Newman students and community members raised over $15,000 to support programming in the school. Our goal this year is to raise $25,000!
WHAT DOES THE JAG-A-THON SUPPORT?
Hugo Newman Prep offers a number of enrichment programs that enhance student learning, including:
- Midori and Friends Instrumental Music Program
- Roads to Success After-School Program & Recess Enrichment
- New York Edge - Sports & Arts in Schools Foundation
- Ballet Hispanico Arts and Education Residencies
- Sunworks Hydroponics Lab
- Studio in a School Art Program
- Chess in the Schools
- Jaguar Debate Team
- Manhattan Mandarin Chinese Language
- Jaguars Boys and Girls Basketball
PS/IS 180 has received federal Title 1 funding in the past, those allocations are quickly declining, and the school community must find other ways to provide support for programs.
NOTE: When donating, please include the child's full name and grade in the [Comment, In Memory, Tribute] section. If you are making a donation for more than one child, note all full names and grades in that section. Thank you for your support!
RUN WITH THE JAGUARS!
PS/IS 180 is partnering with NYRR's Open Run Community in Morningside Park to prepare for the Jag-a-Thon. Join students, families, teachers, and community members at 9am on Saturday 5/4, 5/11 and 6/1 to start getting in shape for the Jag-a-Thon.
