On September 2nd, we will be running the Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon. We have decided to use this opportunity to raise money for the International Rescue Committee, an organization that is deeply meaningful to both of us.
For those who are not familiar with the IRC, it is one of the leading international organizations responding to humanitarian crises and conflicts around the world. The IRC helps affected people at every step of a crisis, from survival, to recovery, and eventually regaining control of lives. This work includes emergency response, health programs, post-conflict development, children’s programs, resettling refugees, and advocacy. There are more displaced people globally right now than at any time since the end of World War II. We hope to do our small part and make an impact by assisting the IRC in their work to meet the needs of this urgent humanitarian crisis.
To this end, we're asking friends and family to pledge to donate a small amount of money per mile we run (the race is 13 miles) or a single amount for the entire race. Donations made to our Crowdrise page are tax-deductible, and anything you can give would mean a lot: $23, for example, can cover emergency care for a severely malnourished child that can save their life and keep them healthy. Large or small, your gift will make an impact in a place where it is desperately needed. We appreciate your support and look forward to the race!
