IMAGING THE WORLD IS IN DIRE NEED OF YOUR HELP NOW!
The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are felt throughout the entire world, and our imaging organization in sub-Saharan Africa is no exception. The providers in these rural clinics have NO personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, gloves and gowns. Due to the imposed quarantine, it is difficult for our staff to have adequate food for themselves and their families. Pregnancy and pregancy related complications do not pause during a pandemic. It is more important now than ever to enable our providers in remote clinics to continue to give medical care in a SAFE and timely manner, and to ensure adequate food for our staff and their families so they can continue to run the organization and to support the providers in the field.
Imaging the World (ITW) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization born from a committment to decrease the incidence of mortality related to childbirth in resource limited areas of the world. This is accomplished by integrating affordable prenatal ultrasound and education programs in rural communities. Imaging the World Africa (ITWA), an affiliate of ITW, is a registered NGO in both Uganda and Malawi and therefore endorsed by these governments. It has been operational in Uganda for over 12 years, and has now expanded to Malawi.
It is estimated that 6,000 women die in childbirth each year in Uganda. Our data show a 70% increase in prenatal visits in rural clinics where the ITW model is used. 23% of the obstetrical ultrasounds performed by ITW trained providers have identified pregnancy complications which resulted in specialized care that the pregnant woman would otherwise not have had. ITW is a well established and internationally recognized organization which has been supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation among many others. ITWA won the Social Innovation in Health Award in 2018 from Uganda's Makerere University of Public Health. Please see the ITW website (imagingtheworld.org) for more information and inspiring photos and videos.
This organization works tirelessly to provide much needed, high quality medical care to many who would otherwise not have access to these resources. Your donation will go directly to purchase locally sourced PPE, and to purchase food for our staff. In response to the coronavirus crisis, GoFundMe Charity is offering a matching grant for $1,000 earned! We couldn't help but take advantage of this generous offer. Thank you very much for considering a contribution during this critical time.
