This winter, I am excited and lucky to be traveling to Africa with Saha Global to participate in their Global Leadership Program, which brings clean water to rural villages outside of Tamale, Ghana. On December 27th, I will be starting a 3 week adventure where I will be working in a village and assisting the women in the village in setting up, implementing and successfully running a water purification business. This business uses only local products to treat existing contaminated water in their community to make it safe to drink. This means that it is a simple process, allowing it to be fully sustainable for years. In Northern Ghana where I will be working, half the population does not have access to clean drinking water. Many villages only have fecally contaminated "dugouts" as their water sources. Drinking this water is the culprit of many waterborne diseases, and one in nine child deaths in the world can be attributed to this. Over the past decade, Saha has assisted in the opening of 112 water businesses in Northern Ghana, where about 40% of the population lacks access to clean drinking water. Every single one of the water businesses that have been opened are still in operation today, and they serve over 52,000 people. Sustainability is a large focus in this organization, so all of the items that are used in the purification process can be purchased at the local market. How will your donation help?
Every penny of your generous donation will go towards transportation and in-country equipment to build, monitor and maintain this drinking water system and provide the women of the village the initial infrastructure to run a profitable water purification business. Once established, the business will provide a permanent source of safe drinking water for 700-1000 people! Saha is a 501(c)3 non-profit, which makes your donation tax-deductible. If you donate through this website you will receive a receipt right away, and if you chose to mail a check, Saha will send you your receipt in the mail. For check donations, please make it out to Saha Global, and write my name (Jillian Carr) in the memo and send to:
