Where Caribbean Cultures Unite
"Island SPACE Caribbean Museum is a place we can all call ‘home’. It celebrates our history, art and culture, and is a place of pride for those of us connected to the West Indies."
- Island SPACE President, David I. Muir
As a donor to Island SPACE, you will literally become a part of history in the making, bringing to life a first-in-the-world facility celebrating the soul of the Caribbean. Your gift uplifts the legacy of nations kissed by the Caribbean Sea. Nations that have made an undeniable impact on the world.
The Caribbean-American community has been yearning for a space where people from all walks of life can come together to learn about their neighbors from the tropics, and celebrate their amazing diversity. Your gift can help realize this dream. Please donate today.
About the Museum
Island SPACE Caribbean Museum will open October 2020 in Plantation, Florida, at the Westfield Broward Mall. We need to raise $50,000 to pay for the materials, labor, research and other practical costs that will make this facility a place the Caribbean community can be proud of.
Any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated, and with a donation of $50 or more, you will be recognized as a “Founding Funder” of this historic undertaking.
Let's build our culture together!
A Brief History
What started as a small pop-up collection of island artifacts in 2018, grew to see installations hosted at some of Broward county’s premiere cultural locations. These venues included History Fort Lauderdale, the African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) and Bailey Contemporary Arts. The project won multiple grants, was featured on NPR and South Florida PBS, has been viewed by over 37,000 South Floridians in its tour of Broward county, and has now evolved into a full-fledged facility with the support of multiple consulates and tourism boards.
While museums in the Caribbean and the United States revere individual island nations and celebrate fine art representing the region, there is currently no collection of historical relics and information that tells the story of the region as a whole. Island SPACE Caribbean Museum fills that void. South Florida — the gateway from the Caribbean to the rest of the world — is the perfect home. Like the museum, it is the place where Caribbean cultures unite.
Island SPACE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of arts, culture and history representing the Caribbean region in South Florida and the broader diaspora. Learn more at islandspacefl.org.
