Hello!
Chicago’s beloved Shamrock Shuffle 8k race is here again, and I’m running again.
Being a new runner, my first time in this race was 2017. My sister, Laura, had been diagnosed with Stage 3b Lung Cancer about 9mo earlier, she was given 1-2yrs left to live. March 2017, her body was fighting off the onlslaught of chemotherapy, radiation... and yet she made sure she was at the Finish Line with flowers for me.
The photo you see of us? I thought would be one of our last together.
Here we are 2yrs later and she’s bugging me about running this race again. So... here we are!
i learned about Imerman Angels as I sat in my sister’s hospital room while she recovered from side effects of Steroid treatments... I was emotional, sruggling to keep a smile on my face, knowing the best medicine I could offer Laura was joy. Imerman Angels connected me to a mentor, Ava, who held my hand so I could find my smile again.
Now I am a Mentor, helping caretakers keep thier smiles.
My goal in 2019 is to raise $2000 for this life-saving grassroots organization. Can you help me get to $400 by 24 March? I‘ll continue my fundraising on a different link through October for thr Chicago Marathon.
THANK YOU!
Kara
