On December 13th, 2018 the IRC in New York will host a Winter Celebration party to celebrate the many victories - small and large - achieved by our refugee community over the past year.
The party on December 13th will be a buffet dinner for roughly 200 families, many including children. Guests at this event will include recently arrived refugees from Iraq, Iran, Central Africa, Burma, Afghanistan, and Syria. While resettlement cannot erase many of the unbearable hardships these refugees have overcome, the Winter Celebration reminds them that they are not alone, and that they are a welcome and productive part of the fabric of their new community.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.
Every year, the IRC's New York and New Jersey regional resettlement offices create opportunities for more than 4,000 refugees, asylees and other vulnerable immigrants to establish successful new lives. Through a holistic suite of services including case management, employment assistance, education programming, community integration and immigration services, the IRC helps refugees, asylees and other immigrants to regain a sense of stability, safety, and self-respect and to become self-sufficient, contributing members of their new communities.
Your tax-deductible donation will go towards providing dinner, warm winter blankets, and toys for families at the Winter Celebration. All additional proceeds raised will go directly to the IRC in New York and New Jersey for resettlement programs throughout the year that include access to food and clothing, community orientation, prevention of homelessness, job skills training, educational classes and financial literacy, and other programs to help them become productive and self-reliant.
Thank you very much!
