You can develop prosperous and peaceful communities by growing schoolchildren's creativity and empathy through the Arts Olympiad.
Typical classrooms have self-segregated groups such as the jocks, the nerds, and the artsy students. To appreciate the importance of community building in one's formative years, it is imperative that the entire class becomes a community with empathic members. The Arts Olympiad Lesson Plan inspires students to embrace the "Artist-Athlete Ideal" of a creative mind in a healthy body (mens sana in corpore sano). This new identity awakens the dormant “inner artist” in young athletes and the slumbering “inner athlete” in those not athletically-inclined, who may also be vulnerable to obesity risk. The Arts Olympiad liberates a natural tendency toward creativity and good health by linking imagination with embodiment. The program works by focusing on students aged 8 to 12—a cohort vulnerable to the well-documented "4th-grade slump" in creativity and the obesity epidemic. Students’ revised self-image solidifies when they depict themselves as “artist-athletes” in their masterpieces as part of the Arts Olympiad school art contest. The class is now transformed into a community of artist-athletes.
Your support will bring the free-of-charge Arts Olympiad to more underprivileged schoolchildren who lack creative outlets and empathy training.
