MESSAGE FROM KELLY
My brothers, sister, and I are overwhelmed and grateful for the outpour of love and support we have received since sharing the news of our father's passing last night. Our father, Bienvenido Laureano, was an angel on earth that taught us about kindness and giving back to others. This molded me into being who I am today. Proudly and loudly becoming an advocate for causes near and dear to my heart.
With this in mind, in lieu of flowers, we ask that you help us support our father's legacy by supporting one of my favorite nonprofits, Dare2B. Inc. An organization I have been involved with since 2012. Various ways for you to support this cause are provided below.
With love and gratitude,
ABOUT OUR DAD
Bienvenido Laureano departed last night - Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at 8:55 pm. He was an amazing husband and father. Born in La Ciénaga in Provincia de Santiago, Santiago de los Caballeros. on November 20, 1934, he leaves behind his wife Ana Rosa Garcia-Laureano and four children Anthony Laureano (eldest), Roseann McGowen, Kelly Steven Laureano, and Elvis Laureano.
His legacy is one that his parents Pedro Lopez and Dolorita Laureano would have been proud of.
National All is Ours Day
Bienvenido passed on National All is Ours Day - a day devoted to appreciating all the things of beauty around us.
On this day, there are three ways to view the day. The third way to view the day is by sharing all that we have. Regardless of what we have, sharing it seems to make tough times easier when we all work together. The greatest times and the greatest things in life are those that are shared.
MESSAGE FROM ANTHONY
My Father, my Papa Bienvenido Antonio Laureano. I remember the first time I realized what the strength of his name meant to me. My childhood memories are full of instances where I could hear friends, family, and even my Mother call my father by; Bienvenido, Bien, Benny, and Ben. Most of the time though it was Bienvenido.
I could remember asking why couldn’t Dad get a normal name like Pedro, Juan, Jose or Luis. A young mind is immature like I was, so I grew to have a small disdain to the name Bienvenido. I was wrong, but realizing my mistake helped me grow. It wasn’t until years later when I was a young man striking out on my own, that I realized how wonderful my father is. That moment, the moment I realized this, was when I asked my Father why he loves his name so, why doesn’t he go by his middle name Antonio? He jokingly, but with earnestness answered “Yo amo a mi nombre porque soy Bienvenido”. Yo soy Bienvenido, yo soy Bienvenido. I am always WELCOMED.
As he was telling me this I could see the love, the pride, the joy, and the strength behind is his words. That is when I knew as you all know now as well, the reasons why he was so welcomed into your hearts. It’s because of his caring, his empathy, his jovial nature, his humor, and his love for everyone around him. Especially the love he brought and nurtured for his family, and his friends.
He grew up living a hard life in Santiago, Dominican Republic, during the 1940s and 1950s. He knew early on that without the care and help of family and friends he could not survive. Dad instilled in me and with us, that core belief. That core belief of welcoming in and helping to the best that we can those who need our help.
That is why he fought fearlessly for his family and helped all that asked. He fought for us so that we can be one family, all his family. Love is what drove him. Love and devotion to those he loved, his passion for us to be family to be as one. He welcomed us one by one and kept us in his heart. That is why I decided then my name will be Anthony Bienvenido Laureano. Yo soy Junior pero mas aun soy Bienvenido Tambien. Yo soy Bienvenido. Ustedes son Bienvenido, nosotros somos Bienvenido. Mi amor para ustedes es para siempre.
May you rest in peace, Papa.
Anthony Bienvenido Laureano

KELLY'S WORK WITH Dare2B
In 2012, Kelly was introduced to Dare2B, Inc. A grassroots all-volunteer organization dedicated to equipping and empowering homeless children for success. Many of you may already know the story because Kelly can't stop raving about Dare2B's work and his sponsored children Antwann and Faith, as well as, his newest addition - mentee Prince.
Throughout the past 8 years, Kelly has helped significantly impact the lives of hundreds of homeless children throughout New York City as a sponsor, advocate, volunteer, and most recently board member of Dare2B. Inc. His love, compassion, and empathy have not only encouraged the leadership team at Dare2B to continue pursuing the organization's goals but most importantly, it has helped children believe that a better life is possible.
Kelly has been fortunate to experience seeing his sponsored children grow up to believe in themselves. Through distribution events, holiday celebrations, academic support, career field trips, mentee sessions, and unconditional love, his sponsored child Antwann has overcome adversity and exceeded expectations when it comes to his behavior and education. Antwann does so great in school, models, and plays the drums! He LOVES to read! Needless to say, Kelly is extraordinarily proud.
One of the main reasons Kelly is so passionate about Dare2B is because the impact of his donated time and money is immediately visible. Kelly loves this grassroots organization's commitment to seeing a kid through success even after they have moved out of the shelter.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Donating funds is the best way to support Dare2B, Inc as they work effortlessly to help homeless children survive and thrive during the current COVID-19 epidemic.
Until two weeks ago, Dare2B kids were going hungry in Brooklyn. Since then, the Dare2B team has now partnered with an affiliate to deliver weekly groceries. Dare2B is looking to replicate this for families in the Bronx, Queens, and Harlem.
Homeless children are falling behind with their education because many shelters remain with no wifi access to allow them to do remote learning. In addition, children are encountering significant trauma as they no longer have school as a form of escape from their harsh reality of living in a New York City shelter.
With this in mind, the Dare2B team is collaborating with shelter sites, teachers, parent coordinators, and guidance counselors to develop a COVID-19 support system to get kids back on track with their education so that they don't fall further behind with their grades.
The Dare2B team understands that not everyone can afford to make monetary contributions, therefore, they have provided a few other ways you can support our fathers legacy:
You shop, Amazon gives! All you need to do is register Dare2B, Inc as your preferred nonprofit.
Dare2B is now gathering care packages to deliver to children at New York City shelters. If interested, you can email them at impactalife@Dare2B.org.
Due to the current epidemic Dare2B only has virtual volunteer opportunities available. They are looking for support with marketing, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment. They are also looking for team leaders to deliver weekly programming sessions after the COVID-19 epidemic allows them to gather onsite. Dare2B sites are located in Brooklyn, Queens, Harlem, and the Bronx. If you are interested in learning more, please email them at Volunteers@Dare2B.org.
