Want to do something BIG for critically ill newborns in Uganda? Help us equip our new Infant Critical Care Ward!
We are a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) non-profit which has funded the building and equipping of Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital (HICH) in Mbarara, Uganda. HICH opened in 2009 with in-patient and out-patient facilities. Since then we’ve added a lab, pharmacy, surgical center and more. We help fund construction and equipment; HICH funds all operational expenses themselves.
Two years ago the Uganda Ministry of Health designated HICH as a “Regional Resource Hospital,” which means seven local hospitals send their premature babies (“preemies") and critically ill newborns to HICH. They do so because HICH offers the best chance for these babies to survive and thrive. We treat an average of 65 such newborns a month. Currently we fit them in among the other in-patient children we treat, but we need a dedicated ward where we can monitor and treat all of them together.
We have fully funded construction of the new Infant Critical Care Ward, and it will be finished in June 2021. However, due to Covid-19 we’ve only funded part of the equipment for the ward from our normal donor base, and we still need $70,000 to purchase additional incubators, radiant warmers, vital signs monitors, etc.
Please help us fund the rest of the equipment we need, and please share this request with everyone you know. Thank you!
